Save money and the planet whilst keeping the great British weather at bay
Woodburning stoves, multi fuel stoves, pellet and biomass stoves, the choice is yours.
A solid fuel fired stove is a far more cost effective and a more environmentally sound way
of heating your home than using gas, oil or electricity.
The Government have realised the benefits of solid fuel heating and as such they are
now offering GRANTS toward the cost of installation. This comes under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk
Now that the gas and electricity giants have increased their prices in excess of 30% in 3 years
it has become almost impossible for the less well off to be able to afford to heat their homes as they would wish,
sacrifices have to be made radiators turned down or off, heating system run for the bare minimum and in a lot
of cases this is restricted to heating the main sitting room only, whilst this would seem to make good financial sense, and
would be if it didn't cost the same now to heat 1 room as it did 3 years ago to heat the whole of a 3 bedroom
semi.
On the environment front, the utility companies claim to be striving to cut carbon emmissions.
Solid fuel has been the leader in cutting emissions for years.
It is a fact that all fossil fuels emit carbon dioxide when burned and it is without question
that this is a major contributor to the current greenhouse effect.
Please take a look at the figures for the average household in the uk and the carbon dioxide
emitted in 1 week.
Electricity =
128kg
Coal =
116kg
Oil
= 88kg
Gas =
67kg
Coal/Wood mix 50% = 58kg
Wood
= ZERO kg

Wood absorbs as much carbon when grown as it releases when burned therefore not only a completely
renewable resource but it is totally carbon NEUTRAL and at a cost of between £20 and £30 for a load of logs which will
on average last 3 to 4 weeks that is a cost of between £5 and £10 per week. In a lot of instances wood can
be sourced free or for a small fee from farmers and landowners who would be only too happy for you to remove it for them.
So if you choose to install a woodburner / multifuel stove as a cooker or as a supplimentary
heating system the need for the use of gas / electricity will be cut by more than 60% should you install a stove with a boiler
as your primary heating system you will be reducing your heating bills considerably and you could be totally free from
any standing charge to the gas company whilst actively reducing the impact on the planet, not bad for a system considered
outdated by the gas and electricity industry.
